Embroidered East Side Hood

The neighborhood that rises from sacred ground, a space where the Dakotah people unknowingly set the stage for the diversity that would come to define this corner of St. Paul for centuries to come.

Its identity was shaped by railroads and factories, and by the iconic Hamm’s Brewery (a place that has lived many lives but is now in it’s “best patio on earth era” - looking at you STP Brewing). Through labor and love immigrants built lives here; each wave adding flavor, language and a rhythm to the streets.

This is where Payne Avenue hosts family businesses, and where some of the best food this side of the river is cooked without pretense. It’s where Lake Phalen and its golf course sit beside neighbors who are more like family.

It’s a place you never quite get over coming from. Even if you leave (and few ever do), you carry this place with you: once an East Sider, always an East Sider.
